The Lions entered the AFL competition in 1996 following the merger of two existing clubs — the Brisbane Bears and the Fitzroy Lions. Few clubs ever have or ever will challenge the Lions’ record of four successive Grand Final appearances between 2001–2004 and three consecutive AFL Premierships.
