The Essendon Bombers Football Club
One of Australia’s best-known and most successful sporting clubs, the Essendon Bombers routinely plays in packed-out stadiums around the country. Essendon remains the only team to win four consecutive top-flight Grand Finals, having emerged victorious from 1891–1894. However, much like their Victorian counterpart Carlton, recent decades have not been so kind to the Bombers. Their last premiership victory was in 2000, and the last few years have been dogged by proven claims that the club used performance-enhancing substances. The club currently plays their home matches at either Marvel Stadium or the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and their training facilities are located out at Tullamarine. Their iconic black and red striped jumper is instantly recognisable by sporting fans from all corners of the country.

Unusually for a Victorian-based club, Essendon also boasts a strong rivalry with the West Coast Eagles, largely due to an infamous moment involving Bombers coach Kevin Sheedy celebrating a close victory by iconically waving his jacket in the air.
Essendon’s long history of success means they lay claim to a number of AFL records, including record attendance for an AFL finals match when 116,828 supporters saw the Bombers go down by three points against their arch-rivals, the Blues.
