GWS HISTORY
On the 13th of March 2008, the 16 AFL clubs cast a vote to form the 18th AFL team. The 17th team was the Gold Coast Suns. The presidents from all the clubs came together to decide that a new team would be established in Greater Western Sydney. And so, the GWS Giants were born. The team played its first match in 2010 at the TAC cup.
The first coach of the Giants was signed on a three year deal. Kevin Sheedy, a seasoned AFL coach from Essendon was given the honours as head coach. In 2010, the AFL poached the talented and popular rugby league player, Israel Falau. He drew much wanted attention to the club.
