The Eagles managed to shine bright in their formative years, playing and beating Richmond at their inaugural match at Subiaco Oval in 1987. The following seasons showed promise, eventually becoming one of the strongest teams in the league. An initial premiership in 1992 against Geelong was quickly followed by another victory against the same opponents just two years later.
The success didn’t stop there. After a disappointing end to 2005, where they were defeated by the Sydney Swans in the last (and most important) game of the season, 2006 ended on a far happier note, with the club recording their third premiership trophy.
